The three terms
| Term | Covers | Labor paid by | Work done by |
|---|---|---|---|
| First 2 years | Any part that proves defective in materials or workmanship | Sub-Zero | Sub-Zero’s service network |
| First 5 years | The sealed system: compressor, condenser, evaporator, drier and connecting tubing | Sub-Zero | Sub-Zero’s service network |
| Years 6–12 | The same sealed-system parts, repaired or replaced | You | Sub-Zero’s network, or any technician using parts Sub-Zero sends you |
In the full-cover years, covered work is handled by Sub-Zero’s own service. In years six to twelve, an owner who uses an independent technician asks Sub-Zero for the parts directly; Sub-Zero does not reimburse sealed-system parts bought elsewhere.
What none of the terms cover
- Defects caused by negligence, accident, or improper use, maintenance, installation, service or repair.
- Replacement water filters and air purification cartridges.
- Cosmetic defects in stainless steel after the first 60 days.
- Units not installed for normal residential use.
Before you call Sub-Zero
Have the model and serial from the rating plate, the installation date, and the name of the dealer that sold the unit; Sub-Zero’s guide asks for all three. Then use the service locator on Sub-Zero’s assistance site or the customer care number printed in your use and care guide.
Where an independent fits
After year two for anything outside the sealed system; after year five for sealed-system labor if you prefer; and any time the cause is excluded, because then the repair is out of warranty whoever does it.
We are not part of Sub-Zero’s service network. Call us about a unit inside its full warranty and we will tell you to call Sub-Zero.
Two questions we hear
Does the warranty start the day I closed on the house?
No. Every term runs from the date of original installation, and in a new build that is before closing, because the builder put the unit in. Ask the builder for the date, or look for it in the appliance paperwork, and write it down with the model and serial while it is easy to find.
Are filters and the stainless finish covered?
Replacement water filters and air purification cartridges are not covered at all; changing them is the owner’s job. Stainless doors, panels, handles and frames are covered for cosmetic defects for the first 60 days only, so check the finish closely right after installation.
